- How much does landscape lighting cost in North Texas?
- Every project is custom, so pricing depends on the size of your property, what you want lit, and the scope of the system. Projects typically start at $2,500, with most landing around $15,000. Larger or more complex properties can run higher depending on scope. We come out for a free consultation, walk the property with you, and put together a written proposal with options at a few different scopes so you can choose what fits. You will know the full price before any work begins. No surprises. Please contact us for your free consultation.
- Do you offer free consultations?
- Yes. We start with a phone conversation to understand your project, then schedule a complimentary in-person consultation at the property in daylight with a member of our team. When appropriate, we follow up with a nighttime demonstration or a rendering before you decide, then send a written proposal.
- What areas do you serve?
- We're based in Van Alstyne and serve homeowners across North Texas, including Anna, Melissa, McKinney, Sherman, Celina, Prosper, Frisco, Allen, Plano, Little Elm, Fairview, Lucas, and Murphy. If you're nearby and don't see your city, just ask.
- How far do you travel for a project?
- We are based in Van Alstyne and travel roughly 20 to 30 miles for most projects. Larger projects are served out to about 60 miles, and projects 30 miles or farther generally need a scope of around $10,000 or more to make the travel workable. We do not serve Fort Worth or areas beyond about 60 miles.
- Do you install Christmas lights?
- Yes. We design, install, maintain, and remove custom Christmas lighting each season in Grayson County and select parts of Collin County. Reaching out early gives you the most flexibility on scheduling.
- When should I book Christmas light installation?
- Earlier is better. Holiday calendars fill through late summer and fall, so getting on the schedule early gives you more choice on your install window.
- Do you repair landscape lighting installed by someone else?
- We evaluate existing low-voltage systems individually. Some systems can be repaired or upgraded, while others may require a more extensive redesign. Contact us with details about the system and the issues you are experiencing.
- What fixtures do you use?
- Low-voltage LED only, in a warm 3000K color temperature so the light stays consistent across the property. Fixtures and materials are selected for the needs of the property and the conditions here in North Texas.
- Can I control the lights from my phone?
- Yes. App control and smart-home integration are available if you want them, alongside standard astronomical timers.
- Do you install solar lights or fixtures I already bought?
- We do not install solar lighting, and we generally do not install customer-purchased fixtures. Both make it difficult to stand behind the finished system.
- How long does a landscape lighting install take?
- Most projects run from two days to about three weeks depending on size and complexity. Larger projects can be phased. We explain the expected schedule before work begins.
- How quickly will I hear back after I reach out?
- Within 24 hours. We start with a phone conversation to understand the project, then schedule the complimentary daylight consultation.
- Who comes out for the consultation?
- A member of the K Legacy team, typically Ethan or Zach, walks the property with you in daylight, listens to what you want, and follows up with a written proposal.
- How do deposits and payment work?
- A 50% deposit is due when you approve the proposal, and the balance is due at completion. We accept Zelle, QuickBooks, and check.
- What do I get when the project is finished?
- A nighttime walkthrough of the finished system with us, plus a wiring diagram and a video of your project for your records.
- Can I convert an old line-voltage system to low voltage?
- In many cases, yes. We evaluate the existing wiring, fixtures, and panel setup, then design a low-voltage system that fits the property. Contact us with details about the current system so we can advise on the right approach.
- Can a system be expanded later?
- Yes. Our designs typically plan the transformer and wiring with room to grow, so trees, beds, or additional areas can be added in future phases without redoing the existing system.
- Do you offer home automation and app control?
- Yes. App control and integration with home automation systems are available if you want them, in addition to standard astronomical timers.
- Do you offer maintenance?
- Yes. The K Legacy Longevity Plan, our bi-annual maintenance plan, includes a night walk-through, re-aiming, cleaning, and minor repairs so your system keeps looking its best.
- Is my system covered under K Legacy Longevity if someone else installed it?
- It depends. We inspect any existing system before enrolling it in the K Legacy Longevity Plan. Eligibility is never automatic. Contact us with details about the system and we'll let you know after a look.
- How deep is the wire buried?
- Wire burial depth depends on site conditions, the type of wire and conduit used, and local code requirements. We follow low-voltage best practices and local requirements on every install rather than a single fixed number.
- How long do fixtures and systems last?
- It depends on the materials, the environment, and how well the system is maintained. Quality low-voltage LED fixtures are built to hold up for years, and a maintenance plan like K Legacy Longevity extends the life of the system further.
- What's the difference between a nighttime demonstration and a rendering?
- A nighttime demonstration shows real fixtures lighting your actual property after dark. A rendering is a visual representation used when a live demonstration isn't practical for the property or timeline. We use whichever is appropriate for your project.
- Why hire a dedicated outdoor lighting designer instead of a general electrician or landscaper?
- Electricians and landscapers do excellent work in their own trades. A dedicated outdoor lighting designer focuses specifically on how light interacts with a property after dark, including fixture placement, aiming, layering, and long-term low-voltage system design, which is the full-time focus of our work.
- Are you licensed and insured?
- Yes. We carry liability insurance and follow low-voltage best practices on every install.
- Who does the work?
- K Legacy is a small, family-owned company. Ethan and Zach are Owner/Operators who lead the company day to day and stay closely involved in project quality and communication.
